hiking: lacs noirs (2540m)

It's been a week since the marathon, so back to the mountains for Saturday hiking. We have been so lucky to have sunny Saturdays all summer, and another one of them today. Our legs are a bit worn for last weekends races, so we gave ourselves a break, taking the telecabine up to Flegere to begin our hike to Lacs Nois (2540m). This way, we can save our legs part of a steep ascent, and give my knee a restful ride down at the end of the day. I had a bit of trouble with my right knee after the "wall" up to Wengen in the marathon, so we also have our hiking poles to absorb some of the pounding.

We hiked just a short climb before stopping to picnic on a rock, and then onward past Lac Cornu (2276m) and to Lacs Noirs beyond.

We had to hustle, making our way down, to be sure to catch the last telecabine. As we approached, we were so happy to see friends out for family hikes along the Grand Balcon Sud. We all rode the last car down and finished our day with burgers in Chamonix. (Even a tofu burger for me!) Friends, food, and a sunny day in the Alps - doesn't get much better.
