The day after a big race: I had been dreaming of running through Iceland since last winter, and somehow, the event has already passed. We are spending the day recovering in Þórsmörk, where the race finished. I'm not feeling too bad, surprisingly not a sore muscle. I've got a bit of discomfort in my left knee, but that happens after most races, so we should be ready to begin hiking tomorrow.
This morning we drank bottomless cups of coffee at the hut and shared stories with other runners who had stayed the night. We were warm and dry and comfortable for a few hours before taking a short stroll up the hills in Húsadalur for an overlook of the area. In the evening, we piled into the dry sauna that smelled like cedar and sage. Even from this remote location, we couldn't escape the reach of the World Cup, so we joined the crowd in front of the projector to watch the final- missing the winning goal when the internet cut out.
