It's that time of year around France and Switzerland- the cows are coming down from their mountain grazing to the their barns in the lower towns. This is a big celebration with decorated cows wearing bells and flowers parading through the streets.
We've missed out the past two years, so I'm very excited to finally get to the Désalpe festival in Saint-Cergue (a Suisse town a little ways down the Jura) with Derek, Tim, and a crowd of friends.
Here come the cows.
Watch your toes and watch where you step.
This celebration had just about all the Suisse-ness you could ever ask for- cows, cowbells, flag tossers, cheese, folk singers, mountain dogs.
Don't forget the Alp horns, sunshine, and pastoral setting.
As usual, we end with the bell ringers, the signal that it's okay to wander away from the parade route. For us, this signaled picnic time and a hike.
