Here we go again, down to the start, and morning warm-up. Another lovely day to run up a mountain. Allez, Derek!
Off to a fast start. I planned to make my way to Lauterbrunen and Wengen to cheer for Derek before heading to the finish, but I hopped on a wrong train (detour), so switched back, and then rode up to Wengernap, and walked to Wixi to see Derek pass the final check point before the single-file assent and finish at Kleine Scheidigg. It was a great place to cheer Derek and watch a bit of the race...everyone crawling along before the last big push.
From here, the runners have to make it up the steep, narrow morain, and keep their legs under them for the down hill finish. I managed to hike an alternate trail to the finish and arrived with not a second to spare to see Derek cross the line at a fantastic pace.
