les calanques

After a comfortable sleep and fantastic coffee, we drove to the coast and hiked from Cassis to the beach at the calanques. We scrambled out on the rocks, away from the crowded beach, and perched ourselves on the water's edge for the day.

Derek worked up the courage to jump, but I got cold feet...from dangling them in the water.

When we had gotten plenty of sun, we walked back along high coast.

We stopped for bread, nectarines, cherries, strawberries, and olives at a road side stand to make our evening feast back at the farm. Yum.

poppies in provence

Yesterday evening we decided to escape the continuing gray rainy weather and chase some southern sunshine. We drove through heavy fog and some rain in the mountains to arrive several hours later at a warm sunny day in Provence. We ate a picnic beside a field of poppies and took a walk to a hilltop overlooking Barjols before arriving at a beautiful b & b at a farm and winery.

More poppies.

We were greeted by a sleepy German Shepherd and the laid-back proprietor. Settled into our room, we longed y the pool and wandered around the grounds to admire the light, and quiet, and the pigeon tower. With a bottle of the domain's rose, we sprawled ourselves on the lawn for our second picnic meal and a lovely sunset
